The FOHBC Moves to Kentucky for 2014
To be honest, most of us should have warm weather well before that date, but it is not too early to start making plans to attend this year’s show being held in the Mid-West Region. It is certainly not too early to send in a contract for sales and display tables. Sheldon Baugh and I are honored to be the co-chairs of this year’s show and we have been busy, along with Convention Director Tom Phillips in making plans for a great collecting experience in the horse and bourbon capitol of the world. Three things to think about while you are trying to ignore the winter weather: First, there are a lot of interesting things to do and sights to see in and around Lexington in the summer time. Second, the host hotel (Hyatt Regency) is attached to the convention center where the show hall is located. So, it is literally out of your room, down the elevator and into the hallway leading to the show in the convention center. Everything under one roof!
If you want to go out to eat, there are about 125 restaurants within four blocks in this beautiful and clean restored downtown setting. And third, there will be up to 325 sales tables and more than 20 display tables, along with educational seminars and an all new and improved Bottle Battle which this year is being called “The Run for the Roses.”
For this very special event we will have a custom built back-lit display cabinet to show off the beauty and charm of each bottle battle contestant. To top that off, a large projection video screen will make certain that everyone in the room can see each contestant. Another good reason to attend the bottle battle is the free drawing. Everyone is eligible to win (except FOHBC Board members) and you must be present to win. I can tell you that the prize is beautiful and it is valuable. It is in wonderful condition and I am guessing that even if it is not necessarily your area of collecting, you would find a prominent place to display it in your home. To find out what it is you need to go to www.FOHBC.org and click on the 2014 National Show.
And don’t forget the banquet on Friday night. This is our opportunity to renew old friendships, make new collector friends and just have a fine meal while enjoying the company of fellow collectors. You do not have to be an FOHBC member to attend the banquet. Also, there will be a special prize drawing at the banquet for a $100 gift certificate to be spent at the show. In the next few weeks, Sheldon, Tom and I along with Jamie Houdeshell will be making our third trip to Lexington to sew up details, firm up plans and to make sure that everything is being done to make this a fun and memorable collecting experience. There is so much more information about the show, so please let me encourage you to go towww.FOHBC.org for all the latest and most current information. A contract for sales tables, display tables along with orders for banquet tickets and early buyer packets can all be downloaded from our website. If you prefer to receive a printed contract in the mail or if you have any questions about the show, don’t hesitate to give me a call at (573) 896-9052 (preferably between 6-9pm CDT) or email me at Pollypop47@yahoo.com. Remember, one good way to take your mind off the chill of this harsh winter weather is to start planning now to attend the FOHBC 2014 Show in Lexington on Aug. 1-3. I can guarantee warm weather and an enjoyable event. Sheldon and I look forward to seeing you there.
